Watch as Mumbai Indians prepare for the 2024 Indian Premier League as Tilak Varma smashes sixes during a training session

Prior to the IPL 2024 season, Mumbai Indians hitter Tilak Varma has shown his hitting ability at the practice grounds. The five-time IPL champion team posted a video of Varma hitting a ton of clean sixes during their training session on X. The Indian batter’s strokes are so exquisite that they even caused onlookers to react, as they were heard exclaiming, “Look at that, look at that!” “Tilak’s bat striking the perfect chord in the nets” was the title of the MI post that was shared. Varma, who is renowned for his grace under the bat, has only taken part in two IPL seasons yet. In 2024, he will be in his third season with the Mukesh Ambani-owned team.

Tilak Varma is an Indian cricket player who has participated in four first-class, sixteen List A, and fifteen Twenty20 matches. He was a revelation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021–2022, amassing four wickets and scoring 180 runs in five games. Due to his success in domestic cricket, Varma was highly anticipated for the 2022 IPL auction. A number of clubs expressed interest in hiring Varma, including the Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. For the player, a basic fee of Rs 20 lakh was established. Finally, MI was able to purchase Varma for Rs 1.7 crore after a bidding battle.

The very expensive price tag for the rookie was quite appropriate considering Tilak Varma’s performance during his first season with MI. In the 2022 season, he appeared in 14 games overall. Varma amassed 397 runs with a top score of 61 in those games. He struck out 131.02 times per game, averaging 36.09 runs. In his first season, he also hit two half-centuries.

Tilak Varma scored 343 runs with an improved top score of an undefeated 84 in the previous year’s competition, enjoying a comparable season. With a higher strike rate of 164.11, he played with an average of around 42.88 runs. His bravery enabled MI to go to the tournament’s second qualifying round in 2023, when they were ultimately defeated by the Gujarat Titans in the elimination round.

Tilak Varma is expected to aim for an even greater ceiling this season as they get ready for their tournament debut against GT. On March 24, the game will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Varma will be watching for changes in the cricketing mindset and attitude that will come his way this season, with Hardik Pandya leading them as the team’s new captain.
