As the season approaches, the NBA is monitoring Damian Lillard and James Harden trade demands

NBA season openers are less than a month away, so the league is keeping an eye on the trade demands made by James Harden of Philadelphia and Damian Lilliard of Portland and waiting for resolutions.

Following a meeting with club owners on Wednesday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke about these and other topics and expressed his dislike for the ongoing standoffs.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-183195″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-lee-kang-in-a-south-korean-star-will-be-released-by-psg-to-serve-abroad-at-the-asi-750×500.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com lee kang in a south korean star will be released by psg to serve abroad at the asi” width=”1461″ height=”974″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-lee-kang-in-a-south-korean-star-will-be-released-by-psg-to-serve-abroad-at-the-asi-750×500.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-lee-kang-in-a-south-korean-star-will-be-released-by-psg-to-serve-abroad-at-the-asi-768×512.png 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-lee-kang-in-a-south-korean-star-will-be-released-by-psg-to-serve-abroad-at-the-asi-150×100.png 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-lee-kang-in-a-south-korean-star-will-be-released-by-psg-to-serve-abroad-at-the-asi.png 860w” sizes=”(max-width: 1461px) 100vw, 1461px” title=”As the season approaches, the NBA is monitoring Damian Lillard and James Harden trade demands 9″>

In terms of trade demands, Silver stated, “don’t like them. We want players and clubs to uphold their contractual obligations as a league.

I’m keeping an eye on the situations in Portland and Philadelphia and I hope they will be resolved amicably before the new season begins. I’m delighted that, at least in terms of public conversation, things seem to have calmed down a little.

Lillard and Harden have both been open about wanting to be dealt. While Harden stated he felt violated that the 76ers were unable to trade him after he selected a $35.6 million contract option to remain with Philly, a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers apparently fell through, Lillard has made it clear that he wants a deal with the Miami Heat.

A new NBA CBA has made it more difficult to assemble teams with several big-name players, but the Phoenix Suns have made progress this off-season by adding Bradley Beal to their roster alongside Devin Booker and Kevin Durant.

“We love super teams as long as they’re formed in a way that seems competitively fair across the league,” added Silver. Instead of allowing one side to spend much more than another, “smart drafting, smart trades, etc., can be made.”

If a club is prepared to pay the salary tax for exceeding payroll limitations, Silver said he has no issue with them exploiting the laws to hoard talent while they move to stricter controls.

“I’m sure we’ll see with these new provisions, once they fully kick in, we’ll have a better sense of how effective they are and maybe have to go back to the table to see if we can do a better job,” Silver said. “I’m sure we’ll see.”

In November and December, the NBA will debut an In-Season Tournament modeled by European football league cup competitions. According to Silver, an early indicator of success would be players’ on-court enthusiasm.

“I think it’s a multi-season issue,” Silver added. “New customs don’t emerge overnight. Therefore, I believe that this will need time to develop.

Although the NBA will assess metrics like attendance compared to average regular-season games, television viewership, and social media engagement, Silver said that on-court intensity will demonstrate whether it is effective.

A feeling of the energy on the floor, according to Silver, “will be something that will be a little less tangible.”

“You can often identify the difference between regular-season games and playoff games if you watch 30 seconds of a game. They are performed with a certain level of passion.

“You’re going to witness something with a little bit more energy than you see during a normal regular-season game if we’re seeing early signals of success. That, in my opinion, will indicate success.

Silver said that the NBA would adjust as necessary to enhance the final product.

I get the impression that as things are today, we’re really content, he remarked. “Once it gets going, I’m sure we’re going to learn a lot, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we decide to make a few changes along the way.”

In addition, Silver said that the NBA’s domestic violence policy laws may have been broken in the case of Houston player Kevin Porter Jr., who is accused of assault and strangling.

“These accusations are horrifying. There is no doubt. Silver said, “But I don’t know anything more.

Because training camps have not yet begun, the league has more time to look into the incident’s specifics.

He said, “We’re still collecting information right now.
